Choosing Narrower Hydraulic Rubber Gaskets


The narrower the width of the hydraulic rubber gaskets, the higher their stress and the sealing pressure in the same environment. But the gasket cannot be cracked, and also must have the necessary radial sealing channel length and sufficient resistance. Hydraulic rubber gaskets can usually be selected according to the nominal diameter and nominal pressure, and according to the actual flange and the use of appropriate modifications. For example, if the sealing surface has a low finish or the viscosity of the sealing medium is low, the width is increased.


Selection of Thin Hydraulic Rubber Gaskets


Hydraulic rubber gaskets require a thickness related to their form, material, diameter, sealing surface processing conditions, and sealing medium. For example, for most non-metallic plate gaskets, the ability to resist stress relaxation increases as the thickness of the gasket decreases, and the perimeter of the thin gasket is exposed to less sealing medium, thus reducing leakage along the gasket body. However, the gasket must fill the flange sealing surface of the bumps and undulations, so the thickness of hydraulic rubber gaskets depends on the compression, gasket stress, deflection degree, and other factors.


Choosing the Right Inside Diameter and Outside Diameter


The inside diameter of hydraulic rubber gaskets extends into the pipe causing the fluid medium inside the pipe to wash over the gasket, which not only contaminates the medium and increases the resistance to flow, but also damages the compressed portion of the gasket due to swelling by the medium. Excessive increase in the outer diameter of the gasket will make it subject to environmental corrosion. For the sealing surface for the protruding surface or full-plane flange, when the gasket is located in the center circle of the bolt hole, for the purpose of installation and positioning, usually take the length of the diameter of the center circle of the bolt hole as the outer diameter of the gasket.
